Depression Counseling

What can you expect from depression treatment?

  • how to find hope

    Hope is Possible.

Depression is highly treatable. Just reading this and being on our website Action Ashley is already progress. Accepting that you’ve been feeling lost, depressed, or helpless doesn’t mean you agree with how life is right now. But your acknowledgement of reality is your first step towards actionable change. Acceptance doesn’t mean there isn’t also any pain or sadness. Therapy helps you thrive instead of just survive.

  • you are not your mistakes

    Your Past Doesn't Define You.

Depression can make it difficult to imagine a positive future when you’re focused on negative events in the past. We can’t change situations that have already happened. However, we can manage the emotions we have and our responses to them, the way we make meaning of the past, and how we look at ourselves moving forward. No one is exempt from difficult life events. We have tools to help.

  • how to live a better life

    Increased Quality of Life.

With research, evidence-based tools our clinicians help you increase your quality of life after depression. We heal when stories are told in safe spaces. When you’re feeling down, the last thing you might want to do is talk about your pain when it already feels overwhelming. We understand that, which is why compassion is our first approach.

Not all depression is the same. We have depression therapy for your specific type of depression.

Situational Depression (Major Depressive Disorder)

Situational Depression (Major Depressive Disorder)

People with Situational Depression, also known as Major Depressive Disorder, typically have this diagnosis after a stressful life event. Maybe you’ve been in a funk, or have been going through a stressful period in life like a divorce, contemplating separation, stressful family conflict, job unemployment, burnout, narcissistic abuse, etc. Your mood has been sliding down a slippery slope, feeling sad or hopeless, irritable or empty, and interest in activities that once used to bring joy has diminished. Sometimes people experience significant weight loss or gain or change in appetite due to depressed mood or change in pleasure in life. You might feel unmotivated and responsibilities in life feel dreadful, like your to-do list at home or work tasks have felt unbearable. You’ve begun to dread social interactions isolating yourself from friends and family, or at least feel like you just wish you could have a week, or month off, with no obligations, in order to escape for a little. Through Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, treatment for your situational depression is helpful and treatable as we regulate your nervous system. Slowly, you’ll regain energy and motivation, hope for the future, self-confidence, and begin to engage with life again. You have something to feel excited about and you’re able to be present with friends, family, or work, rather than wondering how you can get away from the people and activities around you.

Chronic Depression

Chronic Depression

Chronic Depression stems from depression lasting for at least 2 years and is also known as Persistent Depressive Disorder (Dysthymia). You’ve likely felt hopeless and down for long enough where you haven’t been able to keep your head above water for more than 2 months at a time. You experience low self-esteem and having difficulty making decisions when feeling depressed. Your energy is low or you feel fatigues more often than not, have difficulty focusing and trouble sleeping. You’ve been feeling lost and unsure of what happens next. You might’ve tried avoiding this feeling or numbing it away, but nothing has worked. Finding your way here is already progress and this first step is commendable. Reaching out for therapy services will be the only step next you’ll take alone. In counseling, through Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, we’ll help you move from fight, flight, freeze, or fawn, where you’ve likely been shut down for a while, into getting your energy and motivation back, finding hope, building confidence, and reconnecting with life again.

Compassion is our first approach.

Self-compassion is a much better motivator than shame. It’s easier to take action towards your goals when the therapist encouraging you feels safe, the environment is friendly, and you’re not feeling judged.
